Why Make Cookies For Valentines
- Versatile: The best part about these sugar cookies, in my opinion, is that they go beyond the classic flavor base of most Valentine cookies.
- Tasty: They taste great, and aren't anything like those simple heart-shaped Valentine's Day cookie recipes that you'll find yourself baking.
🥘 Ingredients
These Valentines Day cookies have lots of tasty ingredients. Here are some of our favorites.
- Light Brown Sugar: Light brown sugar, with its molasses notes, adds depth of sweetness and moisture to the dough, resulting in a chewier and richer texture.
- Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips: Semi-sweet chocolate chips create gooey, melty pockets of chocolate, offering a delightful contrast to the cookie base.
- Red Gel Food Coloring: Red gel food coloring adds a vibrant red hue, enhancing the visual appeal.
- Strawberry Jello Mix: Strawberry Jello mix infuses the dough with a fruity and vibrant strawberry flavor, adding a unique twist.
- White Chocolate Instant Pudding Mix: White chocolate instant pudding mix contributes a creamy texture and enhances the richness of the cookies.

How to Make Valentine's Cookies
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a cookie sheet with metal baking rings, a baking sheet, or some parchment paper.
- Step 2: Using a large mixing bowl and hand beaters, cream together the butter, sugar, and brown sugar until light in color and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by mixing in the vanilla and red gel food coloring.
- Step 3: Using a medium bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet until combined. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and half of the Valentine's Day sprinkles. Set aside.
- Step 4: Use a large mixing bowl, and cream together the butter, sugar, and Jello mix. Beat in the eggs and vanilla until combined. Using a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, pudding mix, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients into the wet. Fold in the white chocolate chips. Set aside.
- Step 5: Use another large bowl and a hand mixer to beat together the butter, brown sugar, and sugar until pale in color and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla until combined. Using a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually beat into the wet ingredients until a dough forms/folds in the chocolate chips.
- Step 6: Using a small cookie scoop and baking scale, weigh some dough balls to about 1.5 oz. You want to make sure to have 3 dough balls in total, 1 for each recipe. Once you have pressed the pre-made dough balls, carefully mash the 3 flavors and gently press the sugar cookie dough into a thick disk.
- Step 7: Press in the chocolate chips and the love heart chocolate. Bake in the oven for 13-15 minutes. Allow the Valentine cookies to cool for a few minutes on a cooling rack. Enjoy!
Tips For Making These Valentines Cookies

- We've topped the sugar cookies with chocolate hearts, but if you want, you can also use chocolate kisses as a topping.
- In fact, you can try out a ton of different ways of decorating these Valentines Day cookies. You can top the cooled-down cookies with some royal icing and then top it with some cute pink candies of your choice.
- Another great idea is to spread some melted chocolate or royal icing between two individual cookies and turn them into sandwich cookies.
- You can also use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to turn this triple dough into heart-shaped sugar cookies, perfect for Valentine's Day.
- These Valentine's Day cookies can be enjoyed on their own as a snack or can be served for dessert too!
📖 Substitutions & Variations
- To bring a bit of flavor variation in the three different sections of the sugar cookies, you can swap the vanilla extract with some almond extract instead.
- Another great idea is to try out different flavors of Valentine cookies using different mix-ins. For instance, you can add orange zest into one of the dough portions, peanut butter into one portion, and some coconut flakes into one.
- A mix of chocolate chip cookies, red velvet cookies, and some classic sugar cookies can also be a great idea to try this Valentine's Day.
🔪 How To Store These Valentines Day Cookies
- Fridge: These easy Valentine cookies can be made in a batch and refrigerated or stored over the countertop if you haven't coated them in royal icing yet.
- Wax Paper: You can wrap them up in some parchment paper, wax paper, or plastic wrap before you transfer them to an airtight container. Doing this will help keep these Valentine cookies fresh and taste perfect when you eat them later too!
