Our Approach to Image Licensing
Images published on Eat Your Beets may come from a number of legitimate sources. These can include original food photography and other images created by us, commercial stock libraries, image platforms operating under their own licence or usage terms, AI-generated or AI-assisted content, and images supplied by clients, advertisers, contributors or other third parties.
The rights and conditions applicable to an individual image depend upon its source and the terms under which it was obtained.
We do not assume that all image providers operate under the same type of licence, nor do we claim rights beyond those granted by the applicable licence, permission or terms of use.
Image Sources and Licensing Arrangements
Eat Your Beets uses or has used images from established image providers and other legitimate sources.
Depositphotos
Eat Your Beets has partnered with Depositphotos as an image resource. Through this partnership, we may use appropriately licensed stock photography and other visual content obtained from the Depositphotos library.
Content obtained through Depositphotos is used in accordance with the applicable Depositphotos licence and terms associated with the particular asset and its intended use.
Our partnership with Depositphotos does not mean that every image appearing on Eat Your Beets originates from Depositphotos, nor does it alter the ownership or licensing terms applicable to individual Depositphotos assets.
Other Image Sources
Eat Your Beets may also use images obtained from other established sources and platforms, including Adobe Stock, Pexels, Unsplash and Freepik/Magnific, where applicable.
These services do not all operate under identical licensing arrangements.
Adobe Stock provides stock content under Adobe's applicable licensing terms, with different licence types and conditions depending upon the asset and intended use.
Pexels and Unsplash make content available subject to their respective licences and terms of use. Images obtained from these services remain subject to the conditions and restrictions applicable to the relevant platform and content.
Freepik and Magnific provide content and creative tools under their applicable terms, including provisions that may differ depending on the type of content, account, or subscription, and, where relevant, whether the content has been generated or modified using AI tools.
We may also obtain images from other appropriately licensed sources where suitable. Inclusion of a provider in this policy does not mean that every image published on Eat Your Beets originated from that provider, or that every provider grants identical rights.
Where applicable, use of an image is governed by the licence or other usage rights associated with that particular image and source.
Original Food Photography
As a food and recipe website, Eat Your Beets also publishes original food photography and other visual content created specifically for the website.
Unless otherwise stated, original photographs and visual content created by Eat Your Beets or Whaihua Photography & Media remain subject to our applicable copyright and usage terms.
The presence of third-party licensed images elsewhere on the website does not affect the copyright status of original photography created by us.

Images Supplied by Clients and Contributors
Clients, advertisers, contributors and other third parties who supply images to Eat Your Beets are responsible for ensuring that they have the copyright, licence, permission or other authority necessary for the intended publication and use of those images.
An assurance that an image is licensed or authorised for use may not always be sufficient on its own. Where appropriate, we may request evidence that reasonably establishes the right to use the material.
Such evidence may include:
- the original image source;
- an image or asset ID;
- applicable licence information;
- a purchase or download record;
- written permission from the copyright holder;
- information identifying the photographer or rights holder; or
- other appropriate evidence demonstrating the relevant usage rights.
Acceptance or publication of an image supplied by a client, advertiser, contributor or other third party does not itself constitute an independent determination or certification by Eat Your Beets or Whaihua Photography & Media that the supplying party owns the copyright or holds any particular rights in that image.
Where adequate evidence of the necessary rights cannot be established, we reserve the right to refuse, replace or remove the image.
AI-Generated and AI-Assisted Images
Eat Your Beets may use images created or modified using artificial intelligence tools.
AI-generated and AI-assisted material is used subject to the applicable provider terms and relevant law. Copyright and intellectual property rights relating to AI-generated material can depend upon the circumstances of its creation, the provider involved and the law applicable in the relevant jurisdiction.
For this reason, we do not make a general claim that every AI-generated image necessarily attracts copyright protection or that identical rights apply to all AI-generated material.
Where appropriate, information relating to the source or generation of such material may be retained as part of our internal image records.
Copyright Enquiries
We take genuine copyright concerns seriously.
If you believe that an image appearing on Eat Your Beets infringes copyright or other rights held by you, or by a party you are authorised to represent, please contact us with sufficient information to allow us to identify and investigate the image concerned.
Where possible, please provide:
- the URL of the page on Eat Your Beets where the image appears;
- sufficient information to identify the image concerned;
- your name and contact details;
- details identifying the copyright holder;

Licensing evidence relating to individual images may include information associated with commercial accounts, subscriptions, partnerships, transactions or internal business records.
For security, privacy and commercial reasons, our complete Image Register, account information, invoices, subscription records, partnership documentation and other internal licensing records are not published publicly.
Where a legitimate copyright enquiry concerns a particular image, relevant evidence supporting our right to use that image may be provided upon reasonable request where appropriate.
Information that is confidential, commercially sensitive, contains personal information, relates to unrelated assets, or is not necessary to establish the relevant usage rights may be withheld or redacted.
Removal During a Copyright Enquiry
In some circumstances, we may temporarily remove, replace or restrict access to an image while a copyright or licensing enquiry is being investigated.
Doing so is a precautionary administrative measure and does not, by itself, constitute an admission of copyright infringement, liability or wrongdoing.
Similarly, the removal of an image should not be interpreted as acceptance of every allegation made about the image.
Changes to Provider Terms
Image providers and creative platforms may amend their licences, services and terms from time to time.
References to particular providers on this page are therefore intended to describe sources that Eat Your Beets uses or has used rather than reproduce or replace the provider's own licensing terms.
The rights applicable to a particular image will depend upon the relevant licence, permission, terms and circumstances applicable to that image.
