Why This Recipe Works
- My favorite part about these delicious Air Fryer Hasselback potatoes is the fact that they're actually healthier than their deep fried counterparts.
- Deep frying might get the potatoes to crispy perfection, but you'll also be getting more saturated fat.
- In contrast, using your Air Fryer will get the Hasselback potatoes to get perfectly crispy and will cut down the cooking time too.
🥘 Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make these irresistible Air Fryer Hasselback Potatoes:
- Potatoes – Starchy spuds like Russets work best, but Yukon Gold or red potatoes are solid backups.
- Oil – A little veggie or olive oil helps crisp things up.
- Seasonings – We’re talking coriander, turmeric, and paprika for warmth and depth, plus a pinch of salt to bring out all the flavors.
Wanna freestyle? Swap out the spices for garlic powder, Italian seasoning, or even a sprinkle of chili flakes if you’re feeling spicy.

🔄 Substitutions & Variations
- Cheesy Upgrade: Sprinkle with nutritional yeast or melt some vegan cheese on top for an extra indulgent bite.
- Herb Lovers: Swap coriander for rosemary or thyme for a more earthy, aromatic twist.
- Spice It Up: Add a dusting of smoked paprika, cayenne, or chili flakes for a kick of heat.
🔪How To Make Air Fryer Hasselback Potatoes
Once you have all the ingredients ready, here's what you'll need to do to make Hasselback potatoes in the Air Fryer.
Step One: Wash the potatoes, dry them. Cut the edges of the tuber to make a cube. Place the cube on a board. On both sides, place sushi sticks. A sharp knife should be used to make non-slash cuts to the sticks in approximately 0.25-inch increments. Guide the knife strictly perpendicular to the board.
Step Two: Turn the potatoes 90 degrees and continue slicing in the same manner. Place the prepared potatoes in a bowl. Dilute salt in 2 cups of water. Pour the water into the potatoes so that the liquid completely covers the vegetables. Leave the potato cubes for 15 minutes
Step Three: Pat the potatoes dry in a towel. Using a silicone brush, coat the cube on all sides and in between the incisions. Sprinkle spices generously over the potatoes.
Step Four: Place the potatoes cut side up in a preheated Air Fryer basket and air fry at 390 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes. Flip potatoes over and continue to cook for 8 more minutes or until the potatoes are fork tender. Transfer hot potatoes to serving pans or onto plates. Top with vegetables, basil leaves or hot pepper to serve. Enjoy!
👩🍳 Expert Tips
Ready to give this recipe a try? Here are some more tips and tricks you might want to keep in mind while you're cooking Hasselback potatoes in Air Fryer.
- Remember to grease your Air Fryer basket well with some olive oil before air frying the Hasselback potatoes. This will keep them from sticking to the basket.
- Also make sure you leave a bit of space between each potato to ensure even air frying.
- If you can't find Russet potatoes, you could also try using red potatoes or Yukon gold potatoes for this recipe.
- Try to choose potatoes that are roughly the same size. If you have some larger potatoes, you can chop them so that they're all roughly the same size.
- In addition to all the spices and seasonings that I used, you can also experiment and try using other seasonings of your choice. Minced garlic or garlic powder, Italian seasoning and salt and pepper are some good choices.
- You can also sprinkle some cayenne or chili powder for that spicy kick if you want to.
- Depending on your personal preference, you can choose to keep the potato skin on or remove them. Potato skins tend to crisp up nicely when you coat them in olive oil, so I would highly recommend keeping them on.
- The key to making the perfect crispy Air Fryer Hasselback potatoes is to have the right thickness of the potato slices. Thin slices are, obviously, much better than thicker slices.
