This sweet and salty treat is drizzled with colorful candy melts, sprinkled with holiday cheer, and mixed with your favorite festive add-ins like M&Ms or sprinkles.
On a baking tray (you can use parchment paper), lay out the popped popcorn. Then break up half of the pretzels and spread both the broken and whole pieces of pretzel over the popcorn.
Spread out the M&Ms over the popcorn. Melt the candy wafers in the microwave in increments of 30 seconds, until its melted and liquid.
Spread the melted candy wafers over the popcorn mix.
Then add the sprinkles to the popcorn mix and toss everything to make sure the ingredients stick to each other.
Once all ingredients are mixed, allow the popcorn mix to cool. This can be done by leaving the tray at room temperature until the candy has hardened.
After the mixture has cooled and the candy has set, gently break apart any large clumps of Christmas popcorn to serve. You can use your hands to carefully separate the pieces without crushing the popcorn.
Notes
Popcorn Choice: I have used regular salty popcorn for this recipe, but you can use any other flavored popcorn of your choice. Kettle corn is also a great option to consider.Flavor Contrast: Salted popcorn, in my opinion, brings a nice flavor contrast to the sweetness of the white chocolate and other ingredients.Extra Sweetness Option: If you want some extra sweetness into this holiday popcorn snack mix, you can use white chocolate popcorn.White Chocolate: I have used melted white chocolate, because it just helps the red and green candy pop out more. Also, it has a more subtle flavor as opposed to regular melted chocolate.Candy Wafers Alternative: If you don't have the white candy wafers this recipe calls for, you can use Wilton candy melts or just some regular white chocolate chips.Festive Fun Addition: To bring some more festive fun to this Christmas popcorn recipe, you can go beyond the festive sprinkles and add some crushed candy canes to the mix as well.Microwave Melting Tip: When melting the candy wafers, be sure to stir between each 30-second increment to avoid burning the candy. A smooth, evenly melted candy is crucial for even coating.
