A dear friend & reader wrote to me awhile back asking for breakfast inspo. As a busy mom of 3 kids, she longed for nutritious breakfasts but found herself, like we all do sometimes, wooed by the simplicity & ease of boxed breakfast cereal. I’ve talked often about my feelings towards boxed cereal. In short. I loathe it. We kicked breakfast cereal out of our house a couple years ago but that doesn’t mean it won’t occasionally end up in my shopping cart. Ya see, boxed cereal is a barometer for me. It tells me how exhausted I am. As soon as I reach for it, I know what I’m really desperately grasping for: ease, simplicity, less stress, convenience. But a couple days with boxed cereal & I quickly realize how much I hate it! First, my kids can eat an entire box in one sitting (Goodbye, money, we didn’t need ya anyway!). Let’s not forget milk. Suddenly, my kids need a direct supply of milk to a vein (Goodbye, more money, who needs college!). And then, miraculously, like clockwork, my kids are hungry again about 30 minutes later. Groan. I was inspired by all the exhausted moms out there who, yes, they are tired, but they’re not ready to give up the good fight yet. They will not go silently into the early morning chaos. They’ll arm themselves with ideas & utensils & when the kids moan, they’ll say – Not so fast! We’ve got 80+ Real Food Breakfast Recipes!

80+ real best food for breakfast

I seriously debated titling this post – 80+ Real Food FAST & EASY Breakfast Recipes. It’s pretty Pinnable. It certainly sounds good. But I think it’s misleading. For some people, making breakfast is neither fast or easy. In fact, if someone were to go from a frozen waffle to say, cooking eggs & ham in the morning, that would certainly take more time.

Don’t be mislead. Eating real food does take some extra time. But so does anything else worth doing. Think of the time you’ll spend in preparing your food as an investment in your health. Because, it is. You’re worth it. And so are the kids. I’ve also noted places where recipes are egg free, nut free or take some make ahead preparation time. Basically, anything that needed to be baked in the oven, soaked overnight or could be thrown together faster by making a sauce ahead of time – I have marked those as ‘make ahead’.
