Have you heard of Little Owl Crunchy Momma? Well, you have now.
When Jacquelyn Byers wrote this post about her ‘no poo method (also known as not using shampoo or not washing your hair in the traditional sense), I’m sure she wasn’t expecting international fame. She probably wasn’t expecting to be the brunt of a morning television show joke either. She was simply sharing her life. Her methods of gentle & natural body care that she found to be extremely effective. She was being brave by putting her words out there for all of us to see. Anyone who might be searching for more natural ways to manage their hair or wondering how they can cut down on their toxic load – those were her intended readers.
I can relate to Jacquelyn. I’ve always been a little different. That’s sort of how this blog came to be. People were always asking me about the things I did. They were curious & interested in why I did things differently or how I even managed to do them. Just like Jacquelyn, I decided to take a step out. I decided to start a blog so I could share my life, my loves, my interests & my passions with you.
I wash my face with coconut oil.
I eat organic food.
I believe you should know your sources for meats & try & buy local.
I believe in RAW MILK.
I am working on HEALING my son with FOOD.
I literally stopped wearing deodorant for years until I found a natural one.
I used to cloth diaper.
I use a Lunette cup.
I tried going no ‘poo. It didn’t work for me, but that’s ok.
What I never did was try & make other people feel bad about their personal choices.
Yes, I got lots of questions about why I was doing what I did. It was confusing to some people. Most people just got used to me & maybe even eventually let my kinda crunchy ways rub off on them.
But I never had someone try & humiliate or embarrass me.
I have to admit that I don’t even watch the Today show anymore but when I did, I never stuck around for the Kathie Lee & Hoda segment. But through the magic of the viral internet I heard that Kathie Lee & Hoda had gotten ahold of Jacquelyn’s story too & honestly, what follows is, at best, shameful.
If you’d like to watch the video you should click through to minute 6:30 because, let’s face it, that’s what you’re wanting to see.
After you’ve watched the video I’ll let you make your own conclusions about how KL & H handled the story. But I would like to mention that frankly, I’m disgusted by their dialogue.
I’ve tried to write my thoughts about this several different times but they all come down to this: I’m disappointed.
KL & H just proved that there are women who are real, adult bullies in this world. They showed us that mean girls aren’t actually just hiding in the hallways of junior & high schools. They are out there in the adult world, shopping next to you, in the car pool lane & at the doctor’s office. The proved how very little they actually know about taking care of their bodies. They showed us their true colors. In a world where women are fighting every day to take a step out & stand up for what they believe in, KL & H just showed us that even women will try & tear each other down.
KL & Hoda: You are bullies. You are mean. And in my house, that’s about the worst thing you can be.
But I’m a glass half full kinda gal so here’s, in my opinion, the best part: In trying to shame & humiliate Jacquelyn, they have actually made themselves the most transparent they could ever have been – without even trying. They showed us exactly how shallow & ignorant they are.
AND they have actually given Jacquelyn a gift she could have never expected – a national platform to share her views with every mom in the world. A new group of fans to support her as she continues her journey of natural parenting & living. Something every blogger wants – exposure. And an opportunity to show that Jacquelyn, like all classy & crunchy moms, knows how to turn her lemons into organic lemonade. She is owning this exposure & as the love pours in for her, she continues to be positive & pour the love right back out to us.
So come on, moms. Let’s show Jacquelyn some love. Tell her you support her & love her! Tell her she’s doing an awesome job as a mommy, a blogger & a woman. Tell her you can’t wait to hear more from her because I for one, can’t wait.
And don’t miss her board No ‘Poo Movement on Pinterest.
